Budgam, Aug 19: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) in Budgam organized the Girls Inter-Zonal Level Kabaddi Tournament, marking a significant step in promoting sports among young girls in Jammu and Kashmir. The tournament, held at the Sports Stadium Budgam, saw the participation of over 418 girls from 12 zones across the district, competing in the U-14, U-17, and U-19 categories.
In the opening matches, Zone Budgam triumphed over Zone BKP in the U-14 category, Zone BKP faced off against Zone Parnewa in the U-17 category, and in the U-19 category, Zone Magam defeated Zone Hardupanzo.
The event was inaugurated by Ghulam Hassan Khanday, Sports In-charge of the District Sports Office, alongside Shakeel-u-Rehman and Senior Physical Master Manjit Singh Gill. During the opening ceremony, Shakeel-u-Rehman encouraged the girls to actively participate in sports to maintain physical fitness and resilience. He also announced that more sports competitions for girls would be organized in the future, under the supervision of Joint Director Kashmir, Mohd Rashid Kohli.
The tournament is part of a broader initiative by the Governor’s administration to foster sports among the youth in the region, with various other competitions also taking place across the district.
