District Hospital Kargil accredited for post-graduate DNB Courses by National Board of Examinations

Kargil, Aug 30: The Department of Surgery at District Hospital Kargil has been accredited by the National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) for offering post-graduate DNB (Diplomate of National Board) degree courses, starting in January 2025. This milestone puts the hospital on par with government medical colleges in terms of postgraduate medical education.
Dr. Sajjad Hussain, Senior Consultant Surgeon and Nodal Officer for the DNB program at the hospital, hailed this as a historic achievement for the people of Kargil. He highlighted that postgraduate students will now be trained in surgery at the hospital, enhancing local healthcare expertise.
Dr. Hussain and Dr. Mohd Abass expressed their gratitude to Lieutenant Governor Brigadier (Dr.) BD Mishra, along with several key figures including Dr. Mohd Jaffar Akhone, CEC Kargil; Dr. Pawan Kotwal, IAS advisor to the LG; Dr. Vasanthakumar Namasivayam, IAS Commissioner Secretary Health; Deputy Commissioner Srikant Balasaheb Suse, IAS; Director Health Dr. Motup Dorjay; CMO Kargil Dr. Liaqat Ali Wazir; and Medical Superintendent Dr. Stanzin Namgyal for their role in equipping the hospital with advanced laparoscopic machines, laser equipment, and two state-of-the-art modular operation theatres.
The Department of Surgery has also established a cutting-edge surgical endoscopy unit and installed modern sterilization systems in the operating theatres. A dedicated library with the latest medical books, online journals, and a surgical simulation room has been set up for the postgraduate students.
Dr. Hussain reiterated his team’s commitment to providing quality education in surgery, patient care, and the latest surgical techniques. He also acknowledged the contributions of his colleagues, anaesthetists, and the OT staff in making District Hospital Kargil a center of excellence in surgical education and healthcare.
