Dir SKIMS inspects functioning of State Cancer Institute

Srinagar, July 11: Director SKIMS, Prof. (Dr.) M. Ashraf Ganie on Thursday conducted a thorough inspection of the State Cancer Institute (SCI) to assess various patient care facilities.
The director was accompanied by Incharge, SCI, Dr Ghulam Hassan Yatoo, Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Dr Farooq Jan and other senior officers. Dr Ganie meticulously evaluated the institution’s services and infrastructure.
Dr. Ganie’s primary focus was on ensuring the quality of patient care, the efficiency of services, and the availability of necessary medical resources.
“The director expressed his satisfaction with advancements but emphasized the need for continuous improvement and training for staff to keep up with latest medical advancements,” said an official who was part for the visit.
Following the visit to the SCI, Dr. Ganie and his team proceeded to the Engineering Block of SKIMS. Here, they examined ongoing projects and discussed future plans to further upgrade the facilities, ensuring that the institute remains at the forefront of medical care and research.
Dr. Ganie’s visit underscored his commitment to excellence in healthcare and his proactive approach to addressing the needs of both patients and medical professionals at SKIMS.
An official of SKIMS said the institute is planning augmentation in infrastructure and it is the priority of the institute to further push the facilities for the cancer patients.
“Human resources is being discussed in every meeting. Our efforts are on to further push the infrastructure in view of the huge burden of cancer cases in the valley,” he said.
The Director SKIMS also said that the recruitment of faculty positions has already begun and emphasized that they are committed to completing this recruitment as quickly as possible to ensure that the institution is staffed with qualified faculty members promptly.
Prof. Ganie remarked that the faculty of SKIMS performs at par with international standards. However, he stressed the need to cultivate a perception among the public that their work is of the highest quality and continuously improving.
“SKIMS can compete with international institutions as the medical university produces specialists and super specialists who serve at national and international institutions,” he said.
The director emphasized that the largest tertiary care institute in the valley should set an example at the national level. He highlighted that doctors trained at SKIMS are well-regarded and work at prestigious institutions across the country.
