Srinagar, May 01: Mr. Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, IAS, Director Sericulture J&K, today distributed low-cost Silkworm Rearing Huts among silkworm rearers and farmers in District Budgam. The initiative is aimed at addressing the persistent challenge of inadequate rearing space faced by silkworm rearers, particularly landless farmers in the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bhat emphasized the Department’s commitment to strengthening its infrastructure and ensuring the availability of modern and state-of-the-art facilities for silkworm rearers. He assured the gathering that the department is actively working on providing a comprehensive range of support services to silkworm farmers, which includes the distribution of farm implements, disinfectants, technical expertise, and financial assistance for the construction of rearing sheds in a phased manner.

The Director encouraged the local population, particularly women, unemployed youth, and landless farmers, to take full advantage of the schemes being offered by the Sericulture Department. He noted that these schemes are aimed to promote dignified and sustainable employment and uplift the rural economy.

Reiterating his commitment to inclusive growth, Mr. Bhat said, “The Department shall ensure that low-cost silkworm rearing huts are provided to all deserving silkworm rearers and landless farmers across the Union Territory of J&K. Our aim is to foster an enabling environment where every section of society can join hands with the department and contribute to the economic development of the region.”

On the same occasion, the first consignment of high-quality F1 Silkworm Seed, indigenously produced by the Sericulture Development Department J&K under the able leadership of Mr. Bhat, was flagged off for dispatch to all Incubation-cum-Chawki Rearing Centres across Kashmir Division. The seed is the result of dedicated and tireless efforts by field staff across various Silkworm Seed Stations and Grainages of the department.
