Jammu, July 26: Director Rural Sanitation Charandeep Singh on Wednesday visited the ODF Plus Model Panchayat Chatha Farm in Block Satwari in Jammu to assess the progress of the panchayat in sustaining ODF Plus Model status.
During the day-long visit, the Director inaugurated the ODF Plus Model Panchayat in the presence of PRIs, senior citizens and locals of the panchayat. He congratulated the residents of the panchayat for achieving the status of ODF plus Model and interacted with them on how they should now make efforts to sustain this status.
The Director interacted with residents, government officials, including the Panchayat members, sanitation workers, students, volunteers, Self-Help Group members and beneficiaries, and discussed the challenges faced and the support needed to sustain ODF Plus practices.
Singh inaugurated a newly-constructed community sanitary complex. He also kick-started a plantation drive by planting a sapling near the newly-constructed CSC. He inspected a community compost unit constructed for waste management, and recycled items made of plastic waste. The Director interacted with Youth Club Members and sanitary workers and visited an Organic Kitchen Garden developed by a local beneficiary, where organic waste and greywater has been used to produce the vegetables.
At Panchayat Ghar, the Director addressed a huge gathering of men and women and encouraged them to participate in community-led drives for litter free and zero landfill Panchayat. He interacted with locals of the panchayat to conduct awareness sessions and gather feedback on the program’s effectiveness and any areas needing improvement.
On the occasion, the Director appreciated the efforts of Sarpanch Avtar Singh and the officers. He acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of swachhta workers, local women and youth and encouraged them to serve as a model for other panchayats. He also interacted with self-help group members, who have put on display some beautiful products made up of waste on a stall established at the Panchayat Ghar.
