Srinagar, Sep 06: In preparation for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, DIG South Kashmir Range JavidIqbalMatoo conducted a thorough review of security arrangements in Kulgam district on Friday. The review was aimed at ensuring a secure and smooth electoral process.
According to a police spokesman, SP KulgamSahilSarangal presented a detailed briefing on the security situation and the proactive measures in place, including the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct. The security plan encompasses the protection of contesting candidates, the security of strong rooms, transportation, communication plans, and the operations of Special Security Teams (SSTs) and Flying Squad Teams (FSTs).
The meeting focused on strategic measures to enhance security, counter the threat of Over-Ground Workers (OGWs) and Anti-National Elements (ANEs), and ensure the peaceful conduct of the elections. DIGP SKR urged officers to ensure an incident-free election by being more vigilant and fortifying the security grid.
DIG Matoo also conducted a significant visit to Kulgam, where he chaired a comprehensive meeting with officers from the Kulgam Police, Army, and CRPF at the District Police Lines (DPL) Kulgam. The meeting included high-ranking officials such as the DIG CRPF (Ops) for Anantnag, and commanders from various battalions and sectors.
The assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases. The nomination process begins on September 20, with results expected to be announced on October 4. The first phase of voting will cover 24 seats across Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian, Kulgam, Ramban, Kishtwar, and Doda districts on September 18. The Jammu and Kashmir assembly comprises 90 seats in total.
