DC Srinagar conducts evening tour to assess rainfall impact on City

Visits vulnerable areas, inspects protection measures to tackle any flood like situation

Srinagar, Apr 16: The Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat late evening undertook a whirlwind tour of various City areas to inspect the measures taken to tackle challenges from the prevailing weather situation to prevent any flood like situation in the District.
The DC, who is also the Chairman District Disaster Management Authority, visited various areas of the City including Gauge Stations of Ram Munshibagh, Abiguzar Bund, Airport Road, Humhama, Khanyar, Rainawari and other vulnerable spots to have on the spot assessment of the water level increased due to incessant rainfall from the last couple of days.
On the occasion, the DC directed the concerned officers for immediate compliance with regard to the measures to be taken for avoiding any flood like situation and reaching out to the public to provide them timely assistance.
The Officers were also directed to put in place all requisite men and machinery at vulnerable spots, besides taking measures for water logging of inundated low lying areas.
The DC asked the concerned to ensure that all dewatering and pumping stations are operational particularly at essential installations including hospitals, Power stations, besides in inner habitations, lanes and by-lanes.
With regard to the roads being upgraded under Srinagar Smart City Project, the DC directed the concerned authorities to expedite the upgradation process of the roads under SCCL particularly in DownTown areas of the City to provide relief to the people. He also directed for taking up macadamization works on these roads at the earliest so that people/commuters do not face any inconveniences.
The DC was apprised that as many as 97 dewatering pumps are operating in the City to combat water-logging or any exigent situation, if any, caused due to incessant rains.
He was also informed that river Jhelum is flowing below the danger level and the situation is being monitored continuously by the line Departments while Control Centers have been established by the Flood Control Division to keep watch on the situation.
During the visit, the DC was accompanied by senior officers from Irrigation & Flood Control, Fire & Emergency Services, City Drainage, R&B, SMC, PDD, UEED and other departments.
