Srinagar, July 22: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat on Monday chaired a meeting of the District Mineral Fund here to ensure the effective implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY) and the efficient utilisation of the District Mineral Fund for the development of mining-affected areas.
At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner, who is also the Chairman of the District Mineral Foundation Trust, conducted a comprehensive review of each developmental activity undertaken in the district over the last three financial years under PMKKKY using the District Mineral Fund. The fresh proposals submitted by various Departments were also discussed for additional works to be undertaken under PMKKKY for the year 2024-25.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner approved a few schemes of the District Mineral Fund for the execution of development schemes in mining-affected areas. The chair also reviewed the progress of each developmental work carried out during the year 2023-24 under PMKKKY for the welfare of areas and people affected by mining-related operations.
Earlier, the District Mineral Officer Srinagar presented a detailed PowerPoint presentation, informing the Chair that various developmental activities undertaken in the District during the financial year 2022-23 under PMKKKY using the District Mineral Fund have been completed.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman emphasised the need to incorporate innovative concepts in the developmental activities under PMKKKY to ensure a visible impact on the ground and benefit the target population in both directly and indirectly affected areas as per the PMKKKY guidelines.
The chairman urged the officers to work with added zeal and dedication, ensuring the judicious utilization of funds, particularly in areas such as drinking water, playgrounds, and health. He also stressed the importance of accelerating the pace of developmental works under PMKKKY for their timely completion to benefit people living in mining-affected areas.
Dr Bilal directed all members to avoid duplication of works already undertaken by other sectors of District Administration and to classify the areas of the district based on different sectors to maximize the benefits of the PMKKKY schemes. The meeting was attended by the General Manager DIC, District Programme Officer (ICDS), Chief Planning Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Assistant Commissioner Development, District Social Welfare Officer, District Youth Services & Sports Officer, District Mineral Officer Srinagar, Deputy CEO, Executive Engineers of I&FC, R&B, and other concerned Officers.
