DC reviews Muharram arrangements in Ganderbal

Directs departments for timely, foolproof preparations

Ganderbal, June 09: In view of the upcoming Muharram-ul-Haram, Deputy Commissioner Gan-derbal, Jatin Kishore Monday chaired a comprehensive meeting to review and finalise the necessary arrangements for the smooth and peaceful observance of Muharram in the district.

The meeting held in the Conference Hall Mini Secretariat, Ganderbal, was attended by Additional Dis-trict Development Commissioner, Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, Chief Planning Officer, various district and sectoral officers, heads of line departments, and representatives from Shia associations across the district. On the occasion, a detailed discussion was held upon the arrangements to be put in place like uninterrupted drinking water, power supply, adequate ration, health facility, sanitation, traffic management and fire wood especially during the auspicious days and other related facilities.

The representatives from Shia associations highlighted several issues in Dab and Kulan areas, includ-ing the repair of street lights, macadamisation of roads, provision of firewood, fencing upgradation of Maqbooza Ahli Islam Dub and availability of poultry birds. The Rural Development Department and Municipal authorities were instructed to undertake thorough sanitation drives at key religious locations including Imam Baras, shrines and masjids. Executive Engineers from PMGSY and R&B were directed to ensure repair of potholes and take up macadamisation works on all major roads where Muharram processions are expected. The Power Development Department was tasked with ensuring the installation of necessary street lighting and providing uninterrupted power supply during the period. Addressing the meeting, the DC directed all concerned departments to ensure that adequate and timely arrangements are made, particularly in Shia-dominated areas, to ensure the smooth and dignified observance of Muharram-ul-Haram. The DC also assured the representatives of the Shia community that the administration is committed to putting all required measures in place well in time to facilitate the peaceful and smooth conduct of all religious events and processions.
