Srinagar, June 24: Shahnawaz Ahmad Shah, an inmate from Sopore who was injured in a gas cylinder blast at Kupwara Sub Jail, succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning.
According to an official, the explosion occurred on June 19, injuring at least nine inmates. All injured individuals were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, Shah, a resident of Dangerpora Sopore, did not survive his injuries.
Shahnawaz Ahmad Shah, son of Sujah Ahmad, was involved in a case registered under FIR No. 04/2024 at PS Tarzoo, charged under sections 8/21, 22, and 29 of the NDPS Act. The incident has drawn attention to the safety conditions within the prison system.
The explosion was caused by a cooking gas cylinder, and authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
