DC inspects water filtration plants

Asks for extensive chlorination to combat water borne diseases

Shopian, Sept 27: Acting swiftly on reports regarding some cases of Hepatitis A in a few villages of Shopian including Keegam, Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar, today conducted an extensive tour of the district.
The DC, during the visit, reviewed the functioning of water filtration plants there with a view to ensure quality water supply to the inhabitants of the district.
The DC visited various areas including Chowgam, Pad Pawan, Pahnoo, Balpora, and Shirmal filtration plants and water supply schemes to take a first-hand appraisal of the water treatment processes. He emphasized the critical role of clean water in safeguarding public health.
During the review, the DC instructed the Jal Shakti Department to chlorinate all water sources in the district as a preventive measure against potential waterborne infections especially the Hepatitis A. He further urged the concerned officers to maintain vigilance and ensure consistent monitoring of water quality at every stage of filtration and distribution.
The DC made a fervent appeal to the citizens to consume boiled water as a precautionary measure against the infectious diseases.
