DC Gbl reviews measures to curb drug abuse, narcotic trafficking in district

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir who is also District Magistrate today chaired a 14th meeting of District-level NARCO Coordination Committee (NCORD) meeting to review the measures taken by the enforcement agencies to curb the drug abuse and narcotic trafficking in the district.

During the meeting, threadbare discussion was held on various issues pertaining to incidence of drug addiction, areas of concern and hotspots of drug use and action taken by the concerned departments with regard to curbing the menace of drugs.

The DC sought realistic data from all stakeholders regarding the status of drug addiction and cultivation of restricted crops.

While reviewing the status of cultivation of cannabis in the district, the Tehsildars informed that many awareness camps, road shows and participation in parent teacher meets were held in different areas of their jurisdictions regarding misuse of cannabis, poppy and other psychotropic substances.

They were directed to intensify the destruction of such restricted crops involving masjid and mohalla committees besides realistic data shall be collected of drug addicts and drug suppliers in their jurisdiction so that appropriate action is initiated accordingly.

The meeting also reviewed the status of installation of CCTV cameras and computerized billing by retail medical shops in the district.

Assistant Drug Controller informed that about 75 percent of shops have CCTV cameras installed besides all shops have switched to computerized billing in the Municipal jurisdiction.

The meeting also reviewed the parameters for achieving the Nasha Mukt Panchayat campaign in the district and concerned departments were directed to share the monthly progress report and the activities undertaken during the campaign.

The meeting was attended by SSP Ganderbal, Nikhil Borkar; DFO Sindh Forest Division Gbl, CMO, Tehsildars, CAO, Assistant Drug Controller Ganderbal and other concerned officials.
