Ramban Jan 19 : Hundreds of workers from Democratic Azad Party on Thursday held a peaceful demonstration against the land eviction order by the government urging authorities to reconsider its decision.
According to a party statement, the leaders and workers marched towards DC office and handed over the memorandum to DC Ramban in presence of General Secretary RS Chib, GM Saroori Vice-President, Jugal Kishore Sharma and other senior officers
General Secretary RS Chib said that the order is hurting thousands of families and will render them homeless in these harsh winters. “Our protest will continue as long as the order is not revoked. The aim of laws is the welfare of common people but in our UT laws are framed to disempower people,” the he said.
Chib said the elections shall be immediately held so that Jammu Kashmir will have an elected government. “How long they will leave us at the mercy of bureaucrats. It has been more than five years we are without a government. We shall not allow these officers to decide our fate,” he added.
GM Saroori said that the land under the Roshni Scheme was provided to poor and needy people after the Assembly approved the legislation. “It was a pro-poor initiative by the then Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and the present regime is undoing it”.
He said DAP will not silently watch the handling of crucial affairs of Jammu and Kashmir by some officers. “Our voices will be for people and we will not sit aside and let the people suffer. We stand united against this anti people land eviction order,” he further said.
In democracies, the DAP Chief Spokesperson Salman Nizami said, the elected governments have only the mandate to frame the public policies but our UT is denied of this constitutional right and a bunch of officers are empowered to write our fate.
