Srinagar, June 14: The fifth Academic Council meeting of Cluster University Srinagar was held on Tuesday with several important proposals endorsed by the members.
The meeting was chaired by Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Qayyum Husain. Special invitees who attended the meeting included Vice Chancellor, Central University of Kashmir, Prof. Ravinder Nath; Vice Chancellor of Dr. Homi Baba State University, Prof. Rajanish K Kamat; Director Colleges, Prof. Yasmeen Ashai and former Dean Academic Affairs, Cluster University Srinagar, Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad Lone.
From Cluster University Jammu, special invitees who attended the meeting in virtual mode included Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bechan Lal; Dean Academic Affairs, Dr. Naveen Anand, Registrar and Deans of various faculties.
The members ratified the adoption of reservation policy notified by Social Welfare Department for admission to various UG, IG and PG programmes of the university. The council also endorsed the proposal to introduce PG programme in Hindustani Music at Govt. College for Women, M.A. Road, Srinagar.
Other courses to be started in the Cluster colleges include Assistant Yoga Instructor, Physical and Sports Science, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Library and Information Science.
Other important proposals that came up for discussion included introduction of ‘Design Your Degree’ programme, 2-credit summer/winter internship and MOOCS courses in the constituent colleges of the university.
Earlier, In-charge Dean Academics, Dr. Deeba Sarmad briefed the members about the various items on agenda, including the matters meant for ratification and those proposed for consideration in the higher decision making bodies. The meeting began by confirming the minutes of the meeting of the previous academic council after Controller of Examinations, Dr. Khurshid Ahmad Mir read out the profiles of the special invitees.
Others present on the occasion included Registrar, Deans of various faculties, Principals of constituent and affiliated colleges, Coordinators of IG programmes, senior faculty members from constituent colleges and other office bearers of the university.
In their post-meeting remarks, the special invitees appreciated the way the academic council meeting was conducted with all inputs being heard out and taken on board for further consideration. They also commended Vice Chancellor, Prof. Qayyum for ensuring a free and fair exchange of ideas for constructive outcome of the meeting. Dr. Khurshid presented formal Vote of Thanks.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Vice Chancellor of Dr. Homi Baba State University, Prof. Rajanish Kamat delivered a lecture at the PG Department of Computer Sciences at Govt. College for Women, M.A. Road Srinagar on multidisciplinary approaches in computer science. He referred to cutting-edge technologies including Quantum Computing, Human-Machine Interaction and AI & Machine Learning. The interaction was attended by students and staff of the Computer Sciences department.
