CUK observes ‘Intl Day of Specially Abled Children’

Ganderbal, Dec 05: School of Education (SoE), and Directorate of Students Welfare (DSW), Central University of Kashmir, (CUK) Monday observed the “International Day of Specially Abled Children,” at Tulmulla Campus.
The event aimed to promote awareness and inclusivity for individuals with disabilities.
Addressing the participants, Dean, SOE, Prof. Zahoor Ahmad Geelani, emphasized the importance of fostering an inclusive society that values the diversity of all its members.
Dr. Mahi Zakari from Khyber Hospital shared insights into the medical aspects of disability, stressing the need for medical institutions to contribute to holistic care and support. He shed light on the advancements and challenges in the medical field also.
Dr. Itrat Hussain, plastic surgeon from Khyber Hospital, discussed advancements in reconstructive surgery, offering hope and empowerment to individuals seeking transformative solutions. He provided expert perspectives on addressing physical challenges faced by individuals with disabilities.
Dean, DSW, Dr. Irfan Alam, outlined the university’s commitment to create an inclusive environment ensuring that every student feels supported and valued, fostering equal opportunities for all.
Dr. Adil Ahmad from Zaba Aapa Institute shed light on the societal challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and the importance of collective responsibility in creating a more accessible world.
Expressing gratitude to all the participants, Prof. Nighat Basu, emphasized the collective efforts required to advance the cause of disability awareness and inclusivity. Dr. Firdous Ahmad Sofal, who facilitated the event, underscored the collaborative spirit essential for building an inclusive society.
A Qawali performance by specially-abled children, showcasing their remarkable talents was also held. The event concluded by taking a pledge to help some specially-abled child. Professor Dr. Hafsah Jan, was the rapporteur.
