Ganderbal, Sept 18: In a step towards promoting cleanliness and environmental awareness, the National Service Scheme (NSS), Central University of Kashmir Ganderbal conducted Massive Cleanliness Drive under the banner of the “Swabhay Swachhata-Sanskar Swachata” programme at Green Campus Ganderbal, Main Campus Tulumulla, Arts Campus Duderhama and Science Campus Nuner.
The drive witnessed active participation from students, faculty, and staff, reflecting a strong commitment to the values of cleanliness, hygiene, and environmental conservation.
Volunteers, equipped with cleaning gear, engaged in a thorough cleaning of the campus grounds, academic blocks, and surrounding areas, ensuring that every corner of the campus was free from litter and debris.
The event was aimed at instilling the importance of cleanliness in everyday life and aligning with the national mission of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The drive also included awareness campaigns on sustainable waste management and the reduction of plastic use.
The Dean Academic Affairs, Central University of Kashmir, Prof. Shahid Rasool, congratulated the participants and NSS team for their dedication to the cause, encouraging more such activities in the future. He reiterated the university’s commitment to contributing to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and fostering a culture of cleanliness.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shabir Ahmad Ahanger, Coordinator of the NSS Unit and Dr. Kaukab Azeem, Chairman of the Programme and Head Department of Physical Education, emphasized the significance of such initiatives. They highlighted the role of the younger generation in maintaining cleanliness and urged students to adopt eco-friendly habits that contribute to a cleaner environment.
The “Swabhav Swachhata Sanskar Swachata”programme, a part of the larger NSS outreach initiatives, focuses on inculcating values of cleanliness, discipline, and social responsibility among the youth.
This drive at the Tulumulla Campus was a testament to the university’s continuous efforts toward building a cleaner and greener campus.
NSS Programme officers Dr. Harpal Singh and Dr. Imtiyaz Ahmad Dar oversaw the campaign at the Arts campus, while Dr. Nookaraju oversaw the effort at the Main Campus in Tulmulla.
Additionally, NSS Programme Officer Dr. Shahnaz Akhter oversaw the campaign at the Green campus, while Dr. Bandu Matiyal oversaw the effort at the Science campus.
The successful completion of the cleanliness drive is expected to set a benchmark for future events at the university and inspire students to take proactive roles in community service.
