Jammu, Jan 18: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) took out the ‘Samvidhan Bachao Rashtriya Padayatra’ on Saturday as part of its national campaign, demanding an apology and resignation from Home Minister Amit Shah for his alleged derogatory remarks about Dr B. R. Ambedkar.
The march witnessed participation from senior Congress leaders from across the country and J&K. Amid slogans of “Mulk ko bachana hai, Congress ko laana hai” (Save the nation, bring Congress), hundreds of party workers and leaders gathered at Gandhi Chowk in Satwari, Jammu, and proceeded in a procession towards Ambedkar Chowk in Gandhi Nagar.
“This rally is part of our national campaign to save democracy and the Constitution, which are under direct threat from the BJP,” said Bharat Singh Solanki, AICC in-charge for J&K. “We aim to peacefully mobilize public support against the central government’s divisive policies.”
Senior Congress leaders including AICC General Secretary and MLA G. A. Mir, Pradesh Congress Committee President Tariq Hamid Karra, and working presidents Raman Bhalla and Tara Chand, actively participated in the protest.
Mir accused the ruling BJP of undermining the contributions of freedom fighters and the framers of the Indian Constitution. “The BJP government is eroding the ideology of our national heroes. It is Congress’ duty to stand up against this attack on our values,” Mir said, adding that the party will continue its protests until the Home Minister steps down.
JKPCC chief Karra said the party is committed to safeguarding secularism and the Constitution, adding that it is important to oppose divisive politics.
The party’s working president Raman Bhalla reiterated Congress’s determination to prevent any insult to the architects of India’s Constitution, including Dr B. R. Ambedkar, and vowed to strengthen secular forces in the nation. “The unity and development of the country depend on protecting its secular foundation,” he said.
