Srinagar, July 24: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Thursday continued a massive search operation along the International Border (IB) in the R.S. Pura sector of Jammu district following a suspected infiltration attempt on Wednesday late night.Officials said the operation, which began late Wednesday, continued into Thursday morning as BSF personnel conducted coordinated searches in forward villages, agricultural fields, and dense vegetation near the border fence.“Infiltration alert was issued across the R.S. Pura and Arnia sectors. Night patrolling has been intensified and additional personnel deployed, supported by dog squads and thermal imaging equipment,” a senior BSF official said.Drone surveillance was also deployed to assist ground forces in scanning difficult and vulnerable terrain. Authorities suspect that terrorists may be attempting to exploit porous stretches of the border ahead of upcoming national events and festivals.Though no exchange of fire or direct contact with infiltrators has been reported, the BSF has placed all border outposts on maximum alert. Villagers living near the zero line have been advised to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious movement to security agencies.“Coordination with intelligence and other security agencies has been further strengthened to ensure a robust, multi-layered security grid,” the official added.Meanwhile, BSF Water Wing has intensified patrols along the unfenced stretches of the International Border (IB) in Jammu, where rivers flowing towards Pakistan have swollen due to continuous heavy rainfall.Officials said the rising water levels pose a security risk, prompting enhanced deployment along vulnerable riverine patches of the border. The BSF Water Wing is actively monitoring these sectors to prevent infiltration or any cross-border movement. On Wednesday, heavy rainfall lashed several parts of Jammu and Kashmir, triggering a surge in water levels in rivers, including the Poonch River. In response, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was deployed to monitor the situation and ensure public safety.Assistant Sub-Inspector Zakir of SDRF Poonch said their personnel have been stationed in vulnerable areas under the directions of the district administration and state government.“We have been deployed here due to the ongoing rainfall. The water level has risen considerably. People have been advised to stay away from water bodies. We are taking all necessary precautions to avoid any casualties,” ASI Zakir added.
