Ganderbal, Mar 22: A high-level delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on Saturday visited Wooder Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district to offer condolences to the family of Faqeer Mohammad Khan, a senior party leader from Gurez, who allegedly died by suicide in Srinagar recently.
Speaking to reporters during the visit, BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur termed Khan’s death as “deeply suspicious” and called for a thorough investigation.
“We appeal to the DGP, IGP, SSP and other concerned agencies to conduct a high-level probe into the circumstances surrounding the alleged suicide of Faqeer Mohammad Khan. We suspect this might not be a simple case of suicide—it could be a murder,” he said.
Thakur described Khan as a “gentle person” who was always dedicated to serving the people. “I met him just a day before his death. He was absolutely fine and showed no signs of depression or distress,” he said.
When asked why his PSO had left the weapon behind, the BJP spokesperson said it is a matter for the police, and they must investigate it thoroughly.
Calling Faqeer Mohammad Khan one of the top leaders of BJP in the region, Thakur said, “He was the voice of the people of Gurez. His death is not just a loss for his family but for the entire party.”
Faqeer Mohammad Khan allegedly committed suicide in Tulsibagh, Srinagar a few days ago. His last rites were performed in Wooder Kangan.
