Jammu, Jan 11: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has set its sights on contesting all five Lok Sabha seats in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir during the 2024 Parliamentary elections. The party is particularly focused on securing victory in the newly created Rajouri-Poonch-Anantnag Lok Sabha seat, which emerged after the delimitation process.
“Our primary goal is to win the Rajouri-Poonch-Anantnag seat,” former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta told Rising Kashmir, adding that discussions on this plan were scheduled during the visit of BJP National President JP Nadda and Home Minister Amit Shah to Jammu, which unfortunately had to be cancelled due to inclement weather.
Gupta said the BJP’s high command has conveyed to the J&K unit that senior leaders would soon be invited to Delhi. During this visit, feedback on the performance of current MPs and discussions on potential candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls would take place.
Dr Devender Manyal, former minister and BJP General Secretary, said the party is committed to contesting all five Lok Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir. He said the party’s primary focus is on securing victory in the Rajouri-Poonch-Anantnag seat to increase the BJP’s representation to three seats in the Parliament.
The names of potential candidates for all five Lok Sabha seats are currently under discussion within the party, and these names will be forwarded to the party high command in due course, Manyal said.
