Jammu, Sept 20: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) working president Raman Bhalla on Friday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of prioritising its vested interests over the development and well-being of the people in Jammu & Kashmir.
Speaking at an election gathering in Rangpur Sidhra and surrounding areas, Bhalla, who is the Congress candidate for the RS Pura Jammu South constituency, said there is a “lack of cohesion and vision” that has hindered progress in the region.
He challenged BJP leaders to present their achievements in fulfilling the developmental needs of Jammu and Kashmir. “Despite being in power both at the Centre and in Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP has failed miserably in governance and let the people down on all fronts,” he said, adding, “The BJP has nothing significant to showcase as its accomplishments.”
He said the Congress will continue to advocate for every issue, big or small, to ensure the region’s progress. He accused the BJP of betraying the trust of the people of Jammu, who had previously supported the party in hopes of a better deal.
“The BJP has reversed several prestigious projects initiated during the Congress government, further eroding the confidence of the people,” Bhalla said. He criticised the current Lieutenant Governor-led administration for “failing” to push forward schemes aimed at overall development and welfare in the absence of an elected government.
Focusing on the RS Pura constituency, the Congress leader promised to prioritise development and welfare if elected.
Calling upon the youth to be agents of change, Bhalla said the current situation in J&K is dire, with young people feeling cornered and communal harmony at risk. “The anti-people policies of the BJP have brought the state to a volatile crossroads where uncertainty, fear and harassment prevail,” he said
The JKPCC leader slammed the BJP for its “rhetoric” and “unethical” politics. “The current administration has lost the will to govern as its focus is solely on retaining power rather than delivering on its promises,” he said.
