Reasi, Apr 20: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is highlighting the issue of polarisation to divert people’s attention from rising prices, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) working president and the party’s candidate from Jammu-Reasi Parliamentary seat Raman Bhalla alleged on Saturday.
Addressing election meetings and road shows in district Reasi, Bhalla said, “The job of the government is to provide education, health, drinking water, good roads, law and order, but they are not the priority of the BJP.”
The Congress leader accused the ruling BJP of diverting the attention of the people from real issues like inflation, unemployment and lack of basic amenities through communal and religious disputes. “There is a lack of basic facilities for the people with inflation, poverty, unemployment, women harassment, electricity, water, roads affecting the lives of crores of people of J&K. But in order to divert the attention of the people from these shortcomings, the BJP governments are deliberately promoting caste, communal and religious disputes,” he alleged.
Bhalla appealed to people to exercise their universal franchise without any fear and elect Congress candidates who work for the downtrodden. “Voters should use their constitutional rights fearlessly to elect a government of the poor and deprived,” he said.
He said the Election Commission has assured the country of its preparedness to conduct this Lok Sabha election in a “free, fair, accessible, inclusive, transparent and peaceful manner”. “They should live up to their promise and prevent the misuse of government machinery and the code of conduct by the ruling party,” he said.
Bhalla said there is a strong undercurrent in the country in favour of the opposition’s lead alliance of the INDIA bloc including J&K and that the BJP will find it difficult to cross 150 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.
The former minister called upon the people to “get united and fight against the anti-people policies of the BJP government”.
