JAMMU, Oct 18: The BJP core group on Friday affirmed that the party will adopt a role of constructive opposition, focusing on the interests of the people of Jammu region and safeguarding national interests. This decision was made during the first core group meeting held in Jammu following the recent Assembly election results in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The BJP leaders expressed gratitude to the people of Jammu region for their overwhelming support in the elections. “We have decided to play the role of a constructive opposition, addressing the issues of the people of Jammu region while prioritizing national interests,” said a senior BJP leader present at the meeting.
The party also emphasized its commitment to maintaining peace in the Kashmir Valley. “We will not allow anyone to disturb the peace established through the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” added the senior BJP leader.
During the meeting, BJP leaders reiterated their commitment to standing with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, resolving their issues both inside and outside the Assembly. The party emerged as the second-largest in the Assembly elections, securing 29 seats, all in the Jammu region.
The BJP also achieved the highest vote share, with 25.64%, surpassing the National Conference (NC), which won 23.43%. The Congress received 11.97%, and the PDP obtained 8.87%.
In the final phase of the elections, 24 Assembly seats in the plain areas of Jammu region, including Jammu, Samba, Kathua, and Udhampur, went to the polls. The BJP made a significant mark by winning 22 out of these 24 seats.
