Jammu, April 09: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office, Wednesday organised an industrial exposure visit for 28 enthusiastic students of the Standards Club from Government Higher Secondary School (Boys), Samba. The initiative aimed to provide students with practical insights into quality standards, industrial operations, and laboratory practices aligned with BIS’s mission of promoting standardisation and quality awareness.
The students, accompanied by their mentor, Seema Sambyal, visited the BIS Jammu Office, the Referral Assaying Laboratory and Kashmir Ispat Pvt. Ltd., Bari Brahmana. During the visit to the Kashmir Ispat Pvt. Ltd., Bari Brahmana, students were apprised about the various processes involved in the manufacturing/testing of HSDS bars, along with the scientific concepts and principles used in their course curriculum, by Kush Sharma, Scientist-D, Think Nudge and Move Dept. (TNMD), BIS.
During the visit to the Jammu Branch Office, he delivered an insightful session, briefing the students and their mentor on the core functions of BIS, the importance of hallmarking, and the role of standards in safeguarding consumer interests and supporting industrial growth. The various processes of hallmarking/testing in the Referral Assaying Laboratory were also discussed during the visit. The exposure visit proved to be a valuable learning experience for the students, enabling them to connect classroom knowledge with real-world applications in quality control and standardisation.
DLC approves 1471 cases under HADP in Gbl
Ganderbal, April 09: District Development Commissioner, Jatin Kishore Wednesday chaired a meeting of District Level Committee to discuss and approve cases received under Holistic Agriculture Development Plan (HADP) in the district.
A statement said that the committee approved 1471 cases of various sectors, including agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, and allied fields. Among these, 134 cases have been linked with credit. The DC emphasized that the HADP is a major step towards creating a sustainable and profitable agricultural ecosystem and urged all officers to intensify efforts to reach out to farmers, ensuring maximum participation in HADP initiatives and utilizing available resources to their full potential. The DC also reviewed the registration of farmers on Daksh Kisan Portal, KKG and Kisan Sathi portal and impressed officers to augment registration of farmers. Furthermore, streamlining Credit Linkage schemes implementation was also emphasised so that a commitment to optimizing its advantages for sustainable agricultural growth is achieved. The meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer, GM, DIC; Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Chief Agriculture Officer, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Assistant Director Fisheries and other committee members.
