Rajouri, May 03: A brainstorming session on ‘Environmental Conservation: A spiritual perspective’ was jointly organized by Environmental Sciences, Centre for Biodiversity Studies and National Service Scheme (NSS), BGSB University.
Professor Akbar Masood, Vice Chancellor, BGSBU applauded the efforts of the Department and University NSS wing for taking lead in organizing such activities to raise awareness about the significant conservation issues related to the environment.
Dr Parvez Abdullah, Coordinator, National Service Scheme presented the opening remarks and deliberated upon the need to strictly follow and implement environmental ethics in our daily life.
Dr A. A. Shah, Associate Dean, School of Biosciences and Biotechnology in his address asserted that all religions and cultures have something to offer to conservation and environmental protection.
Dr Shreekar Pant, Coordinator, CBS in his address explained the concept behind organizing this brainstorming session is to provide a platform involving all stakeholders from different disciplines to highlight the importance of spiritual beliefs in solving today’s environmental issues.
Dr Md Affan, Coordinator, Department of Arabic stressed the need for such kinds of programmes in sensitizing young minds towards following spiritual practices for the conservation of environment.
Dr Manmeet Singh, Assistant Professor, ITE, CoET, deliberated upon the essence of being spiritual and prioritizing conservation issues for solving environmental problems.
Dr Rafique Anjum, Coordinator, Centre for Research in Gojri, Pahari & Kashmiri Languages stressed the need of following the think globally and act locally approach for solving environmental problems.
Dr Manzar Alam, Assistant Professor, Department of Arabic, urged the students to imbibe spiritual practices for a sustainable future.
Mr Azhar Mehmood, student of M.Sc. Environmental Sciences, cited suitable examples from the life of Mahatma Gandhi and its relevance in today’s life.
Dr Zaheer Abbas, Head, Department of Mathematical Sciences, in his concluding remarks, summed up the true meaning of spirituality in relation to environmental conservation.
The event marked the presence of the faculty, scholars and students. Mr Sajid Abdullah, conducted the proceedings of the event while Dr. Mamta Bhat, Assistant Professor, presented the vote of thanks during the event.
