Srinagar Feb 27: The Department of Community Medicine, SKIMS Soura, in collaboration with RTO Kashmir and SACPPE Thursday organised an awareness programme on Substance Abuse at Government College of Education Moulana Azad Road, Srinagar.
The event was mainly targeted at driver community. Dr Shamila Hamid gave an overview about Substance abuse including tobacco use. Dr. Fahd Bukhari from SKIMS highlighted the harmful effects of drug abuse and its preventive measures by generating awareness among common masses. Dr Humayun from the department of Psychiatry emphasised the management options of substance abuse including services available to quit smoking and other substance abuse.
Dr. Muneeb Shah and Dr. Mir Altaf Ahmad coordinated the program, while ARTO Enforcement Er. Mubashir Jan emphasized the role of drivers in promoting a drug-free society, stating that “Law and liberty are two sides of the same coin.” Inspector Mohd Manzoor SHO Kothibagh also attended the programme and deliberated on the topic. He informed the participants about the laws governing passive smoking and gave an overview of COTPA 2003. He stressed that as per the law in vogue, no person can smoke in public and no shopkeeper can sell tobacco products to minors, etc. The speakers and participants were honoured with certificates and mementos.
