Larnoo (Kokernag), Feb 03: In an early morning anti encroachment drive amid snowfall, authorities in Larnoo village of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district retrieved a significant portion of land designated for building a play-field.
An official said that to fulfill the demand of local youth of village Larnoo for establishing a playfield, an anti-encroachment drive was conducted successfully at village Larnoo at 7:30 am by a joint team of officers and officials from the departments of revenue, police and rural development headed by Tehsildar Larnoo, SHO Larnoo and VLW Larnoo.
Syed Muiz Qadri, Tehsildar Larnoo told Rising Kashmir that Deputy Commissioner Anantnag put emphasis on the development of playfields during various events of Block Diwas and directed all departments to play an active role in developmental activities.
He said, taking into consideration the demand of locals, a quantum of 19.5 Kanal was freed from encroachers. The anti-encroachment drive was conducted on priority to meet the aspirations of local youth and to prevent funds from getting lapsed as the financial year 2023-24 is approaching closure.
He said, the development of the playfield will not only be an asset for the village but will also be a means to positively channelise the energy of the youth by engaging them in sports activities and keeping them away from anti-social activities such as drug addiction
Meanwhile, the locals thanked the administration for their efforts despite adverse weather conditions and applauded the efforts of the joint team in carrying out the drive amid snow in the area.
Ahmad, a local resident, said that the retrieval of a large chunk of land has fulfilled the demand of local youth who have been striving for it. The playground will benefit the entire Larnoo Halqa, fostering sports activities in the area.
“The area had no playground, and the village youth would travel 4 kilometres to the nearby village. Now, with this playground at our doorstep, it will enhance sports activities here,” he added.
