Srinagar, Dec 11: In response to rumours suggesting the house arrest of Jammu and Kashmir leaders ahead of the Supreme Court’s imminent verdict on the abrogation of Article 370, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha categorically denied such claims. Addressing the press in Jammu, he asserted that these allegations were baseless and aimed at spreading misinformation.
Sinha stated, “These claims are entirely without merit. No individual in J&K has been placed under house arrest or detained for political motives. Such assertions aim to propagate false information.” His statement comes at a crucial juncture as the nation awaits the Supreme Court’s decision on the constitutional validity of revoking special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
The 5-judge constitution bench, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai, and Surya Kant, is set to deliver the verdict today. The anticipation surrounding this decision has sparked intense speculation and discussion, making Sinha’s clarification all the more significant.
As the nation awaits the Supreme Court’s pronouncement, the Lieutenant Governor’s assurance seeks to dispel any apprehensions about political detentions, ensuring a transparent and fair process leading up to the historic verdict on Article 370.
