Jammu, Aug 29: The Indian Army has swiftly constructed an alternate bridge over the River Tawi at Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, in a remarkable display of efficiency, ensuring the resumption of vehicular movement in the city. This development comes after the fourth bridge on the river sustained extensive damage due to unprecedented and record rainfall in Jammu.
“The construction of the alternate bridge at Bhagwati Nagar, following damage to the fourth bridge over Tawi, began this morning and was completed today at 6:30 PM,” stated Lt Col SuneelBartwal, PRO Defence, in an interview with Rising Kashmir.
He added that the Army conducted thorough trial runs on the newly constructed bridge, considering various safety parameters.
The trial involved the Army running its vehicles over the bridge to assess stability and load capacity.
“The Army has completed the trial run, and the bridge will be handed over to the Jammu district administration tomorrow, facilitating vehicular movement,” Lt Col Bartwal confirmed.
A portion of the fourth bridge at Bhagwati Nagar was washed away earlier this week following heavy rainfall and swelling of the River Tawi.
Engineers from the Tiger Division laid a 110-foot Bailey bridge under challenging conditions, overcoming washed-out approaches and limited workspace.
Remarkably, the entire bridge was completed in less than 12 hours, restoring crucial connectivity for the people of Jammu.
