Samba, July 26: Apni Party Provincial President, Jammu and former minister, S. Manjit Singh on Friday accused the administration of not giving adequate priority to the development and implementation of the public welfare scheme in the Samba district.
As per a press release, a meeting was organised here at village Meen Charkan in Bari Brahmana of Samba District to discuss various issues confronted by the people. The participants raised the issue of the adverse condition of roads with huge potholes, damaged lanes, and drains.
On hearing them, the former minister expressed surprise as to how the administration and its respective departments failed to check the developmental work on the ground that requires immediate response for the welfare of the people, the statement said.
He said public funds are provided by the government to upgrade the living standard by ensuring developmental works. However, the situation in various villages and wards of Samba district is different, he added.
“The situation is alarming for the people who have lost their faith in the government and its administration that has created a wedge and failed to work for the public welfare,” he said, adding, “In these last several years, the trust between the people, and the administration has reduced and hence, the people also avoid going to the respective administrative offices in their tehsils because of the non-responsive attitude of the officials, and arrogance that is responsible for mistrust.”
The Apni Party leader said the people want to bring change in the governance and are desperately waiting for elections in Jammu and Kashmir for its legislative assembly.
Citing anger among the people as a reason for disconnection and mistrust, Singh said the people of Jammu and Kashmir have also sought restoration of statehood.
He said the hopes of the people were again compromised by granting more powers to the Lt Governor of J&K than an elected government.
“Thus, these additional powers to the LG J&K would make the elected governments weaker in taking decisions in favour of the people, and it is believed that the bureaucracy would continue to dominate the elected government,” he said.
Manjit, however, asked the people to extend their support to the Apni Party in the proposed assembly elections in J&K to bring “positive change”.
