Srinagar, 11 Nov: Thousands of devotees converged on the eve of Friday following of annual Urs of Hazrat Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA) on Friday at Dastgeer Sahib Shrine in Khanyar to participate in the congregational prayers.
Also, a large number of devotees also participated in the night-long prayers “Shab Khawani” at the shrine on Thursday during which special prayers were held for peace, stability, and prosperity of the Kashmir Valley and the world, officials at J&K Waqf Board said that the adequate arrangements were put in place for devotees during the Urs days.
Sheikh Saleem, the administrator of the Khanyar shrine, told Rising Kashmir that more than 50,000 devotees thronged the shrine throughout the day during which
“The shrines were decorated, adequate arrangements were made by the Waqf board authorities during the Urs days, and adequate arrangements for devotees were in place and were facilitated throughout the Urs days. The holy relic was displayed after every prayer today”, the officials said.
The official added along with the district administration, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, other government departments, and the Police department also extended their support during the Urs days.
Throughout the day, devotees including women and children flocked to the shrine in great numbers to catch a glimpse of the holy relic after each prayer of the day. All roads and interior roads adjacent to Khanyar shrine were also filled with devotees to offer Friday prayers.
During the display of holy relics at the shrine, emotional scenes were witnessed as devotees made earnest prayers amid sobs and tears of overwhelming emotion.
The annual Urs of Dastgeer Sahab (RA), which was marked with religious fervor and enthusiasm, is observed yearly in the month of Rabi Al Thani, the fourth month of the Islamic Hijri Calendar.
Outside the shrines, the local and non-local business establishments had installed carts and were seen selling the Kashmir traditional foodstuff and sweets.
The officials also said that the congregational prayers were also observed at Dastgeer Sahib (RA) at Sarai Bala where thousands of people gathered to have a glimpse of the holy relics of the Sufi Peer where authorities had made all necessary arrangements for the convenience of devotees including sanitation, drinking water, street lights, and medical first aid.
Meanwhile, traffic officials told Rising Kashmir that special arrangements were also made for the smooth passage to the commuters today at Sarai Bala and Khanyar areas of Srinagar where the shrines of Dastgeer Sahab (RA) are located.
