JAMMU, Mar 30: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday booked Virender Singh, suspected to be the bodyguard of  Amritpal Singh, chief of ‘Varis Punjab De,
under the Arms Act and also has also cancelled his gun license issued from Kishtwar area of Jammu, officials said.
Virender Singh, the bodyguard of Amritpal Singh, who is on the run, is an ex-serviceman,  was terminated from the Army in 2015 for misconduct and violating service norms, sources informed.
A resident of Taran Taran, Punjab, Virender Singh got his license issued from Kishtwar in 2014, sources said. Surprisingly, Virender Singh’s unit was not in Kishtwar but still he managed to get a gun license from Kishtwar.
“We have registered an FIR against Virender Singh and also cancelled his gun license,” SSP Khalil Poswal told Rising Kashmir,  adding, “His gun license was valid till 2025 which he got renewed from five different districts of J&K including Kupwara”.
“We received information from Punjab Police about this matter after which the action has been initiated against Amritpal’s bodyguard, Virender Singh, and his gun license has been cancelled, “the SSP further said.
“How Virender Singh got gun license issued in his favor from Kishtwar despite the fact that his Army unit was not here in Kishtwar and how he got that license renewed from 5 different districts of J&K is  being probed thoroughly,” the SSP said.
