Ganderbal, Apr 05: Member of Parliament (MP) from Anantnag-Rajouri, Mian Altaf Ahmad Larvi on Friday said he has already conveyed his position on the Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament, asserting that he spoke at the right forum and at the right time.
Speaking to reporters in Mamer, Kangan here after inaugurating a newly established shop, the senior National Conference (NC) leader said there was no need for further clarification as his stance had been made clear before the nation.
“Whatever we said, you’ve seen it. Whatever we had to say, we said it on the appropriate platform. There’s no need to justify it again,” Mian Altaf said. “The people of the country witnessed our statements. I raised the matter where it mattered—in Parliament.”
Addressing the widespread dissent over the Waqf Amendment Bill, MP Altaf said the opposition to the legislation is not restricted to Muslims or Jammu and Kashmir. “This is not just about Muslims. Across India, every conscious, thinking individual—regardless of religion or region—has raised their voice against it. The opposition is coming from all corners of society,” he remarked.
He said it was a time for public engagement on such critical issues. “We will keep raising our voices and see what happens in the coming days —you’ll see it too. We will continue to meet you, continue to speak,” he assured.
When asked about the outcome of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s crucial meeting held a day earlier, Mian Altaf chose not to comment.
“Only the Chief Minister is in a position to speak about that meeting,” he added.
