Ganderbal, Sept 16: National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Monday took a strong stance against the alliance between the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) and Jamaat-e-Islami, accusing it of being a ploy designed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to create division among the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
“The alliance between Jamaat-e-Islami and Awami Ittihad Party aims to divide the people. They are merely a product of the BJP. People are well aware of such tactics,” he said during an interaction with reporters in Safapora, Ganderbal.
Referring to the release of leaders associated with the alliance, Dr Farooq questioned their timing and motives. He warned the people to remain vigilant against efforts aimed at undermining their unity and respect. “The alliance is a strategy to divide us and sell the respect of our mothers and sisters,” he added.
The former chief minister reiterated his commitment to the restoration of Article 370, saying his party would continue its legal battle for the special status of Jammu & Kashmir by returning to the Supreme Court.
“We will approach the Supreme Court again and again. So far, two decisions have been in our favour,” Dr Abdullah said, adding, “The fight for the reinstatement of Article 370 is far from over.”
Reaffirming his dedication to the peaceful fight for Article 370, the NC chief stressed that the struggle would not involve violence. “We are ready to sacrifice for the restoration of Article 370, but we will fight with reason and law, not with swords, guns, or stones. Our battle will be fought in the Supreme Court, and we will keep moving forward,” he said.
