Srinagar, July 27: Aga Syed Hassan Mousvi Safvi, the president of the Jammu and Kashmir Anjuman Sharia Shian, has urged both Sunni and Shia communities to consider their differences as minor and to refrain from airing their disputes publicly.
He issued this appeal during an interfaith dialogue session aimed at promoting peace and understanding within the diverse fabric of the region.
Addressing a gathering of religious leaders and community members, Mousvi Safvi emphasised the importance of unity and mutual respect among Muslims. “While it is true that there are differences of opinion between the members of the Sunni and Shia communities, these should be treated as trivial,” he said. “At the same time, we should not wash our dirty linen in public.”
Aga in a statement said that the essence of Islam lies in brotherhood and solidarity. “Our focus should be on fostering an environment of mutual respect and understanding,” he remarked. “It is essential that we engage in constructive dialogue and work together towards common goals, rather than allowing our differences to divide us.”
The interfaith dialogue chapter, where Mousvi Safvi made his remarks, was attended by prominent religious leaders from various faiths, who collectively underscored the need for dialogue and cooperation. The session focused on finding common ground and fostering a spirit of unity among diverse religious communities.
“By advocating for such principles, Mousvi Safvi not only aims to strengthen the internal cohesion of the Muslim community but also contributes to the broader goal of interfaith harmony, which is essential for the overall peace and progress of Jammu and Kashmir,” the statement said.
