SIA has preliminarily identified numerous properties purchased or acquired by JeI worth hundreds of crores of rupees.
In the first installment, after verification on ground, SIA has chosen district Shopian, the district with maximum Jamaat penetration and after confirming that nine different landed and in some cases land-Cum-house properties are indeed under JeI ownership or control.
SIA submitted evidence before the District Magistrate of Shopian who has expelled the JeI from entering or using these nine properties under section 8 of UAPA.
The properties included land in villages at Batapora and Heepora Batagund and school buildings at Bongam and Kanipora of the district.
The Jamaat was banned by the union government in early 2019, for five years under Section 3 of the UAPA, as the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said the group was “involved in anti-national and subversive” activities “intending to cause disaffection.”
After the ban the J&K government launched a massive crackdown against the group.
