High-intensity bouts continue at All India Inter-University Wushu C’ship

Srinagar, May 8: The ongoing All India Inter-University Wushu Championship 2026 witnessed intense competition and strong spectator participation at SKISC, Srinagar.

 

The championship is being organised by Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, University of Kashmir, under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities.

 

More than 200 bouts were conducted during the day across several Sanda weight categories, including below 80 kg, below 85 kg, below 90 kg, below 100 kg, and above 100 kg in both men’s and women’s divisions.

 

The bouts featured fast-paced action, technical skill, and close contests, with successful athletes advancing to the quarterfinal stage scheduled for the final day of the championship.

 

Alongside the Sanda events, Taolu competitions continued to draw attention with participants showcasing precision, balance, agility, and traditional weapon routines.

 

Athletes from the National Sports University delivered notable performances in the Taolu segment, earning appreciation from spectators and officials alike.

 

While distributing medals to the winners, Coordinator DPES KU, Dr. Surjeet Singh, said that hosting national-level events plays an important role in strengthening the sports culture of the region and encourages young athletes to pursue competitive sports at higher levels.

 

In the Taolu Single Regular Event Nangun (Women), Valentina of Manipur University clinched the gold medal, while Anjana Kumari from Ranchi University secured silver and Veda Surthi of Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University bagged the bronze medal.

 

In the Taolu Single Regular Event Gunshu (Women), Astha Oranl from Ranchi University won the gold medal, followed by Shreya of Bharati Vidyapeeth with silver and Prachi from Gondwana University who secured bronze.

 

In the Taolu Single Regular Event Daoshu (Women), Astha Oranl of Ranchi University continued her impressive performance by winning another gold medal, while Shreya from Bharati Vidyapeeth claimed silver and Tanu Kumari, also representing Ranchi University, earned the bronze medal.

 

In the Taolu Single Regular Event Qianshu (Men), Nelson of Lovely Professional University secured the gold medal, while Bhanu Partab from University of Rajasthan took silver and Shivam of Parul University won the bronze medal.

 

In the Taolu Single Regular Event Taijijian (Men), Ngamba representing Lovely Professional University won the gold medal, while Bhumeswar Wahengbam of Manipur University secured silver and L. Plato Deep from Parul University bagged the bronze medal.
