Futuristic approach of Vice Chancellor & KVK team appreciated

Ganderbal, June 04: Dr. S.K. Chaudhari DDG (NRM), ICAR took a review of KVK Ganderbal along with Dr. Parvinder Shearon, Director ATARI Zone-I Ludhiana, Prof. D.M. Makhdoomi, Director Extension & Dr. M.K.Verma, Director CITH to analyze the progress made in strengthening IFS model and establishment of modern demonstration units and specialty crops suitable for various agro-ecological zones of district Ganderbal. The delegation was led by Prof. D.M. Makhdoomi Director Extension, SKUAST-K.
The Visionary approach of ICAR & Hon’ble Vice Chancellor has been implemented through strenuous efforts & leadership provided by Director Extension and Senior Scientist & Head Dr. Ishfaq Abidi & his team during last two years has made the KVK a role model for the entire country. The dignitaries expressed satisfaction regarding establishment of first Custom Hiring Centre in the KVK & State of Art Silage Plant. The efforts of KVK Team in developing an Integrated Farming System (IFS) at Kendra campus was applauded. Dignitaries visited various protected structures, HDP units viz., Apple, Cherry, Walnut, Apiary, Fisheries, Lavender, Saffron, Kala zeera blocks etc. It was reiterated that ICAR would continue to support & strengthen KVK Ganderbal on its journey towards development of a Centre of Excellence in the whole Country.
Dr. Abidi appraised the dignitaries about the vision & mission of the KVK for ushering agriculture revolution in the District through futuristic approach, precision/high tech agriculture, that will lead to socio-economic upliftment of farming community. New initiatives for product-based cropping pattern in medicinal & aromatic plants, specialty & horticulture crops were discussed which would further help the KVK to develop value chains & startups. DDG, ICAR praised the futuristic approach of Vice Chancellor being carried forward by Director Extension & Head KVK Ganderbal & his team.
A comprehensive interaction between dignitaries &Scientists supporting staff of the KVK, in which various suggestions were put forth for further upscaling & augmenting of activities, strengthening of KVK infrastructure and initiatives for increasing farmers participation & out-reach. Dr. Abidi thanked ICAR & University for their continuous support.
