Kulgam, May 07: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Cell Kulgam organised a voter awareness camp on Tuesday in the premises of District Court Complex Kulgam to promote a positive vibe among people to cast their votes and understand its essence.
The programme was inaugurated by Principal District and Sessions Judge Parvaiz Iqbal, who flagged off the SVEEP van.
Advocate Arshid Hussain Baba, President of Bar Association Kulgam, said the programme was a collaborative effort of the District Election Cell and the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Kulgam.
He said the programme aimed to educate advocates, litigants and attendees about the importance of voting. The election cell visited the court as part of an outreach program under the SVEEP.
“On May 25, the Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary seat will go to polls, and our DLSA Secretary, Tabassum Qadir Parray, ensured that people participate in the program and understand the right to vote and its significance. We urged participants to set aside all other activities on polling day and prioritise casting their votes,” he added.
Tabassum Qadir Parray, Secretary DLSA, said that as per the directions of J&K Legal Services Authority, they were instructed to host programs to educate people about voting. “We are making efforts to inform people through these programs about the right to vote, which is our constitutional right. On Tuesday, we hosted a programme in the Court Complex Kulgam for an awareness camp on voting,” she said.
The programme was inaugurated by Principal and Sessions Judge and Chairman of Legal Services Authority, Pervaiz Iqbal, who flagged off an SVEEP van.
“The van travels from village to village to educate people about casting their votes. The programme was attended by judges, advocates, and litigants, wherein the master trainer impressed the importance of the ‘right to vote’ and ‘why to vote’,” Tabassum added.
