Srinagar, May 05: In continuation with its endeavour of technology dissemination outreach programs, Krishi Vigyaan Kendre (KVK) Srinagar conducted two days training program on production technology and disease management of silk worms.
The event was organised for silk worm rearing entrepreneurs and extension functionaries of district Srinagar to provide hands-on training on different aspects of rearing technology from seed production to cocoon harvesting including management of frequently occurring protozoan, bacterial, viral and fungal diseases during the rearing season that infests the larval stage in particular.
A statement from KVK stated that the first of its kind programme was organised in collaboration with CoTSMirgund and Deptt. of Sericulture Kashmir well before the onset of rearing season to benifit the practising rearers/entrepreneurs by upgrading their skills with various scientific techniques in order to make rearing a more remunerative venture. On the occasion, Dr.SA Simnani, Head KVK and Dr.Rayees Wani SMS gave an overview of the KVK activities and underlined need of conducting such skill orientated programs to equip growers with the latest rearing techniques.
Resource person from CoTS DrFarhat deliberated on the pathological problems of the worms encountered during the rearing season with precise focus on economically important diseases like muscardin (fungal) and Flacherie (viral) infesting during larval period of rearing.
Dr Sehreen Rasool (Deptt of Sericulture) gave an insight of the issues in production and horizontal expansion of the sector and their remedial measures being taken by the department to adress the issues in holistic approach.At the end of the program Dr Simnani urged the participants to get acquainted and benefitted from various schemes under HADP program of the UT.
JKAACL organises “Ru-Ba-Ru Meet the Eminent” on Punjabi writer Harbhajan Singh Sagar
Srinagar, May 05: Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) organized ‘Ru-Ba-Ru, Meet the Eminent’ programme on Punjabi writer Harbhajan Singh Sagar under the able guidance of Secretary JKAACL.
Sahitya Academy Awardee Khalid Hussain was the Chief Guest on this occasion whereas S. Kanwal Kashmiri presided over the programme.
S. Popinder Singh Paras, Editor, Sheeraza Punjabi, well known intellectuals, writers and family members of Sagar attended the programme.
In his address, Khalid Hussain, shared his experiences in the field of literature, with H.S Sagar. He said that some of the short stories of H.S Sagar like Pension Case, Lalded Diyan Asthiyan, Badshah KitheyHai?, are having a world class standard level.
In his presidential address, S. Kanwal Kashmiri elaborated on the life work and contribution of S. Harbhajan Singh Sagar.
In his address, Popinder Singh Paras welcomed all the guests, writers and others on the occasion. He said that JKAACL has organized a number of literary events, including Meet the Eminent programmes, during the last year.
S. Ajit Singh Mastana, Dr. Arvinder Singh Amn and Joginder Singh Pandhi also expressed their views in the programme.
A collection of articles on literary criticism, titled ‘Harbhajan Singh Sagar Di Sahitik Drishti’, compiled and edited by S. Popinder Singh Paras, was released on the occasion. The articles in the book are based on the life, personality and works of various writers of Jammu & Kashmir.
S. Harbhajan Singh Sagar, a renowned Urdu and Punjabi short story writer of Jammu & Kashmir was blessed with the practice of short story writing as well as literary criticism. He started writing in Urdu and his stories were published in many Urdu magazines like Aaj Kal, Beesvin Sadi, Paaswaan, E Adab, Ruby etc. Afterwards, when he got interactions with other well-known Punjabi writers of Kashmir, he started writing short stories in Punjabi. He has presented his short stories in a number of conferences in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab and New Delhi.
Three books of short stories, titled ‘Yatri’, ‘Dayira’ and ‘Band Darvaaje Da Birtaant’, written by Harbhajan Singh Sagar have been published so far. He has been awarded with Best Book Award twice by J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages.
