Jammu, May 04: The Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) has extended its innovative e-bus service beyond the city limits, reaching out to previously underserved border areas in the region.
The introduction of e-buses in these remote border areas, such as RS Pura, Ramgarh in Samba District, Kathua, and Vijapur, marks a significant development, providing much-needed transportation options to residents who previously had limited access to public transport.
“This initiative has brought considerable relief to the residents living near the borders, fulfilling a longstanding demand for improved transportation facilities,” stated a senior officer.
Sources indicate that additional border areas in Jammu will soon be included in the e-bus network, further enhancing accessibility to public transportation for local communities.
Previously confined to the urban confines of Jammu City, the high-tech e-buses, ranging from 9 to 12 meters in length, have now expanded their operational scope. With approximately 90 e-buses currently in operation, plans are underway to make the full fleet of 100 e-buses operational within a week, according to CEO Rahul Yadav.
These modern e-buses boast amenities such as heating for winters and air conditioning for summers, ensuring passenger comfort year-round. Fare charges for e-bus travel are comparable to existing government-regulated rates for matadors and State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) buses.
Passengers can expect to pay Rs 10 for distances ranging from 3 to 10 kilometers, aligning closely with existing fare structures. JSCL aims to further enhance connectivity by introducing inter-city e-buses servicing areas such as Udhampur, Katra, and Kathua, expanding the reach and impact of this innovative transportation solution.
