Srinagar, May 03: The newly appointed Principal of Government Medical College Handwara, Professor Dr. Khurshid Ahmad Wani, issued an order on Friday stating that any doctors of Associated Hospitals found practicing during official hours (9 AM to 5 PM) will be terminated without prior notice.
An official order in this regard reads, “It is for the information of all the faculty/doctors of GMC Handwara and its associated hospitals that if any of them are found practicing privately during working hours, he/she will be terminated immediately without any prior notice.”
The bold move by the newly appointed Principal of Government Medical College Handwara has been hailed by the public, who alleged that doctors were practicing privately during official hours, leaving patients to suffer.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Principal GMC Handwara stated that the motive behind this order is to provide better healthcare facilities to the people of the district.
It is worth noting that frequent complaints of doctors practicing privately during official hours were being reported from the associated hospital of GMC Handwara. With this order, the people of Kupwara district hope to receive better facilities.
Dr. Wani has also stated that his priorities would be academics and improving healthcare facilities. He has also directed administration of hospitals to monitor the attendance of paramedical staff on a regular basis.
