Srinagar, Jan 07:  In Jammu and Kashmir, there are a total of 891 primary health centres (PHCs) out of which 112 PHCs, which makes it 12.5 percent, function without proper electricity in rural areas, the Rural Health Statistics (RHS) 2020-21 has revealed.
As per the yearly report, there are some 88 PHCs which makes it 99 percent are without the proper water supply while 33 PHCs having no motor-able roads.
The report also reveals that there are 192 PHCs that function on 24/7 basis. It also said that only 283 PHCs have labor rooms while 23 have operative theatres.
Similarly, 312 PHCs function with at least four beds. The RHS reveals that out of the 891 PHCs only 570 have separate toilets for male and female patients.
Similarly, the infrastructure facilities in Sub Centres across rural areas in Jammu and Kashmir also remain compromised.
The report said that there are a total of 2426 sub centres functioning in Jammu and Kashmir out of which only 143 have ANM quarters.  It notes that there are 882 sub-centres that function without regular water supply and 710 sub-centres are without electricity supply.
The poor infrastructure facilities in rural areas despite expansion of government schemes are compelling patients to move to district or sub-district hospitals for treatment.
Administrative Secretary, Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department, Bhupinder Kumar said the department is working on a gap analysis after which yearly plans would be made to improve the infrastructure and fill the gaps in healthcare institutions across J&K.  “We will be making a plan and we will project the gaps in the yearly plan activities,” he said.
The RHS is based on data provided by the States/UTs. The data has been analysed and cross-checked for consistency and also validated with the data available from other sources.
