Srinagar, Sept 25: Two terrorists were killed as security forces foiled a major infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tekri Nar area of Machil in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said.
The police said that identification of the slain terrorists is being ascertained while two AK 47 rifles, two pistols and four hand grenades were recovered from their possession.
“Army and Kupwara Police neutralized two terrorists near LoC Tekri Nar in Machil area of Kupwara. Identification of killed terrorists is being ascertained. 02 AK 47 rifles, 02 pistols and 04 hand grenades were recovered. Further details shall follow,” the Kashmir police zone said in a tweet.
PRO (Defence) Srinagar, Col Emron Musavi said that based on specific intelligence inputs received from Jammu and Kashmir Police and other intelligence agencies of a likely infiltration attempt in Macchal sector, troops were put on high alert and joint ambushes of JKP and Army laid on likely routes of infiltration.
He said around 7.30 AM on Sunday, in prevailing poor weather conditions, alert troops observed two armed infiltrators crossing the LoC near Tekri Nar, Macchal.
“The infiltrating terrorists were engaged by alert troops. A firefight ensued, resulting in both terrorists getting neutralized,” he said.
The spokesman said they have recovered 2 AK 47 rifles, AK Mags – 06, AK 47 rounds – 53, hand grenades 04, pistols – 02, pistol magazines – 02, pistol rounds – 35, Rupees 4350 Pak Currency and food items from their possession.
On August 25, this year, three terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of Baramulla and large quantity of war-like stores were recovered from their possession.
A senior police department told Rising Kashmir that 149 terrorists including 111 local and 38 foreigners were killed during anti-terror operations in the Valley.
“We have succeeded in killing 149 terrorists including 38 foreigners during the first 9 months of 2022. The anti-terror operations would continue with full intensity,” he said
