Ganderbal, Dec 28: The authorities have ordered shifting the fire and emergency station in this central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district from Gund to Sonamarg during winter.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir in an order, a copy of which is in possession of Rising Kashmir, has directed for shifting the Fire & Emergency Station Gund to Sonmarg for winter months.
In this connection, a meeting was held in the office of the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir on December 24 wherein directions were passed to the Executive Officer Sonmarg Development Authority and District Administration Ganderbal to provide suitable accommodation for housing the men and machinery for the proposed fire station at Sonmarg.
There is an apprehension of water freezing in the tank of the fire tender during winter months, and as such, a garage for the fire tender is equally important.
The Div Com during his visit to Sonamarg in October this year said that to promote Sonamarg as a winter tourist destination, it is imperative to have all facilities available for tourists, especially heating arrangements in hotels, water and electricity, besides proper plan for its promotion at all levels so that the tourists can have the best experience. He has already directed the Director Tourism Kashmir and CEO of SDA to devise a proper mechanism for its wide publicity as a winter tourist destination.
