Srinagar, Oct 22: National Conference (NC) President and Member of Parliament from Srinagar Dr. Farooq Abdullah and vice-president Omar Abdullah Saturday greeted people on the annual Urs observance of the Patron Saint of Kashmir Hazrat Sheikh UlAalam, Alamdar e Kashmir, Sheikh NurUd Din Nurani (NundReshi) R.A, hoping the auspicious eve increases the prospects of peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir.
In his greeting’s message, Dr. Farooq said, “Unique in style, thought and narrative, his verses based on universal brotherhood, love and compassion have shaped the cultural milieu of Kashmir. He had made peace making and reformism his lifelong mission which had a harmonizing influence on our society. A living symbol of Kashmir and the guiding light of its people, NundReshi (RA) continues to exert enormous influence on the socio, cultural and religious beliefs of the people of Kashmir. His thoughts have moulded the minds of generations for more than six centuries, establishing a culture of utmost religious toleration, brotherhood, compassion with an abiding faith in the omnipresence of God and profound love for holy Messenger of Islam ( SAW). The Urs we are observing today has long been resuscitating our unique cultural and political identity, it will continue to do so in the times to come. I pay my humble tributes to HazratSheikh UlAlam (RA), hoping and praying that the day acts as a harbinger of peace and prosperity in J&K.”
In his message, Omar Abdullah said, “NundReshi’s teachings exhort people to cultivate self-discipline and piety. His articulacy has undoubtedly enriched our language with wise and succinct sayings that have become proverbial. His teaching reflecting syncretism, brotherhood, compassion, and unity of mankind led him to be equally revered across religions. Till date, his shrine in Charar-e-Sharief is thronged with devotees from diverse backgrounds. I pay my earnest tributes to him on the auspicious annual Urs observance.”
