Srinagar, Aug 7: The Vice-Chancellor (VC) University of Kashmir (KU), Prof Nilofer Khan Monday urged teachers, scholars and students to follow the academic calendar in letter and spirit with special focus on their academic and research activities.
While making surprise visits to various university schools and centres at the main campus and to ascertain the status of class- and lab-work, the vice-chancellor reiterated her commitment to making the university a global hub of quality academics. She stressed on ensuring quality in its teaching, research and co-curricular endeavours.
Declaring the main campus and all the satellite campuses as ‘tobacco-free’, the vice chancellor impressed upon all the employees, faculty, scholars, students, visitors and shopkeepers not to use any tobacco products within the premises of the main and the satellite campuses of the university. A circular in this regard has already been shared with the public.
Accompanied by the varsity’s registrar, Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir, the vice-chancellor inspected Department of Psychology, Centre for Womens Studies & Research, Shah-i-Hamadan Institute of Islamic Studies, University Model School, Institute of Music and Fine Arts and Department of Social Work
The vice-chancellor interacted with the students and inquired from them about the time-table and status of their syllabi.
Prof Nilofer Khan said, “We have already issued instructions to the teachers, scholars and students to adhere to the rules and regulations for timely completion of syllabi and consequently the degrees,” she said.
She further said there will be no compromise on conduct of classes as per the notified time-table and that any complacency in punctuality will be strongly dealt with.
To safeguard their future academic prospects, the vice-chancellor also urged the students to focus on their academics and research with utmost dedication.
She also directed officials concerned to ensure regular cleanliness in and around the departments.
Since assuming her office, the vice-chancellor has been inspecting the teaching and research facilities to assess the activities first-hand.
Following the resumption of academic activities after a ten-day summer break, all the deans, heads, coordinators and directors at the main campus and satellite campuses have been instructed to follow the academic calendar without fail so the academic and research engagements of the varsity is not delayed or disrupted in any manner.
