Leh, July 12: Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Thakur, emphasized the strength of India’s defence system and lauded the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that the country is emerging as a powerful nation on the world stage.
Addressing a gathering after an interaction with the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in Karzok Village, the minister expressed the government’s commitment to developing the Union Territory of Ladakh and ushering in a new era of prosperity.
The Union minister underscored the government’s dedication to making India stronger and better, emphasizing that a robust defence force is supported by a strong government. He commended the soldiers stationed at a height of 15,000 feet, acknowledging their courage and perseverance in safeguarding the nation’s borders against the challenges of nature.
Speaking about the progress in defence equipment manufacturing, Thakur highlighted the initiative of Atma Nirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India), which has led to the indigenous production of over 400 defence items. He proudly announced that the previous year witnessed the manufacturing of defence equipment worth ₹1 lakh crore and exports worth ₹16,000 crore—a significant achievement for the nation. The minister also mentioned that the adoption of cutting-edge technologies in defence manufacturing has attracted the interest of foreign companies, encouraging collaboration with Indian counterparts.
Thakur further assured the local populace that the government prioritizes their demands for digital connectivity, road infrastructure, tourism development, improvements in the Jal Jeewan Mission, and sports infrastructure. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for the successful implementation of various government initiatives in the bordering regions under the vibrant village program.
The minister emphasized the strengthening of all three wings of India’s defence system, while also emphasizing the central government’s commitment to resolving the challenges faced by the people of Ladakh. He praised PM Modi’s eagerness for the rapid development of Ladakh, as evident from the frequent visits of union ministers to assess the ground-level situation and address local concerns efficiently.
Elaborating on the developmental initiatives undertaken by the central government, Thakur highlighted the positive changes witnessed in Ladakh. He noted the increased profitability in agriculture, growth in trade and industry, expanded employment opportunities, and improved access to quality education and healthcare services, even in the remotest areas.
