Srinagar, July 13: Three non-local labourers were injured after being shot by terrorists in Gagran area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district, Police said on Thursday.
The injured have been identified as Anmol Kumar, Pintu Kumar Thakur and Heralal Yadav, all residents of District Supaul, Bihar. Following the attack, they were rushed by locals to SMHS Srinagar with bullet injuries in critical condition.
The attack took place in the evening. The attackers managed to take advantage of the darkness and fled from the spot.
A police spokesman in a tweet said “Terrorists fired upon three outside labourers in Shopian. Injured persons are Anmol Kumar, Pintu Kumar Thakur and Heralal Yadav, all residents of Distt Supaul, Bihar, being shifted to hospital. Cordon being launched,” he said.
Medical Superintendent SMHS Srinagar, Dr Muzaffar Zargar told Rising Kashmir that all three injured labourers are stable and out of danger. They are treated at the hospital, 2 have bullet injuries in abdomen and one in shoulder, he said.
“A team of doctors is monitoring their condition and further details will be shared later,” Dr. Zargar said.
A Police officer at Shopian said that three labourers received gunshot injuries and were immediately shifted to hospital for treatment.
“We have registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. The investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this terror crime,” he said.
The officer said the entire area has been cordoned and searches are going on.
LG condemns attack
The Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has strongly condemned the terror attack in Shopian in which three people have been injured. The Lt Governor said such barbaric acts targeting labourers highlight the desperation and cowardice of terrorists and their sympathisers. He has directed the district administration to ensure all possible assistance to those injured and their family members. The Lt Governor said no efforts will be spared to bring the perpetrators to justice
