Srinagar, June 04: As many as five labourers sustained injuries after an under-construction shopping complex collapsed in the Hirri Payeen village of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
As per the locals, the incident took place on Sunday afternoon while the labourers were engaged in laying the slab on the ground floor of the building. A significant portion of the slab gave way, causing the collapse and injuring the workers.
Prompt action was taken following the incident, with locals, police, and army personnel quickly arriving at the scene. A rescue operation was initiated immediately to ensure the safety of those affected. The injured labourers were promptly taken to the Sub District Hospital (SDH) in Kupwara for medical treatment.
“One labourer, who sustained a head injury, was referred to GMC Baramulla for specialised treatment,” the Station House Officer (SHO) of Kupwara said.
He said all the injured individuals were local residents. He identified them as Ghulam Hassan (40), Imran Ahmad (18), Zubair Ahmad (22), Rovail Ahmad (18), and Reyaz Ahmad. The injured individuals hailed from Kalaroose and Gulgam areas.
